Welcome back guys. This is Ben Lai from Sales Ethos, and I’ve got with me again Dr. Rachel Abramson. My question for you today Dr. Rachel is… Can I call you doctor? Or should I just call you Rachel?
Dr. Rachel Abramson
You can call me Rachel or Dr. Abramson, it sounds funny saying Dr. Rachel!
Ben Lai
It does! So Rachel, I’ve got a question for you. Is money the root of all evil?
Dr. Rachel Abramson
Yes and no.
Ben Lai
All right. This is going to be interesting!
Dr. Rachel Abramson
…In that some people do have that perception that money is dirty, money is everything that’s bad in the world… If you hold that perception what you think is how you conduct yourself. And yeah, money does turn out to be the root of all evil. And you see it everywhere you go. But if you don’t hold that view, if money is seen as a force that can be used for good, then that’s what you’re going to see. As you go about your day, and little things that you do in your life. Yeah, so, is money, the root of all evil? That’s up to everybody to form their own view. But that it might also be interesting to take a view that can be helpful for you.
If taking the view “money is the root of all evil” is holding you down and holding you back in your personal life, your professional life, in entrepreneurship, in investment, then you can change your thought about money, change your relationship with money to something that’s more useful. Something that might be more empowering or more encouraging. And enable you to have a different experience with money. So maybe money can help you be more of who you are. Which is different from money being the root of all evil money being a force for good, it can enable you to be more of who you are. So when you take that as your frame of reference, then you can be more of who you are. And you can allow money to come to you in a way that is more useful to you in a way that is more productive and more empowering.
Ben Lai
So it sounds as though it kind of depends on how you use that money, isn’t it?
Dr. Rachel Abramson
Money can be well, it can be used for good… It can be used for evil, and it just depends how you apply it. How you use it as to whether it is the root of all evil or whether it is a force for good or something in between.
Ben Lai
Absolutely and it’s sort of like a tool isn’t it like a hammer could be used to fix something or it could be used to hurt somebody so in the same way money is a very powerful tool but I like to think that you know, even the earning of money. You know, there’s certainly bad ways to go about it and there’s good ways to go about it. So for the entrepreneurs
Dr. Rachel Abramson
You can earn money by selling marijuana, or you know, shooting people. Well, I don’t recommend it actually! So that’s an example of a way of earning money but yeah, most of us would choose a profession or an occupation of some kind where we develop skills and professional knowledge and so on and I tried in return for a fee.
Ben Lai
Yeah, absolutely. And as we were saying in the previous episode, if you’re bringing disproportionate value to your clients you know for the amount that you’re charging there should be theoretically no guilt associated isn’t it with what you’re doing. It’s only when it costs other people let’s just say your business activities is harming the environment in in in some sort of irreversible way or it’s hurting people that the earning of money is is considered to be evil.
Dr. Rachel Abramson
Yeah, tobacco companies but we might say anything!
Ben Lai
Yeah, they’re not watching this video anyway, we’ve only got good people watching. Alright so there you have it!
